Why do People Wear a Wig?

hair-loss-wig-bad-hair “Why do people wear a wig?” You may find this question very intriguing. In fact, the first thing that comes in our mind with the idea of a wig is nothing other than a bald head. Yes, when we see someone wearing a wig or a hairpiece immediately we think that he must have lost his hair.
But is it the fact? Do all who wear a wig have bald heads? Let’s see who are these people who are not bald but still they prefer hair replacement systems.
· People in Europe started wearing wigs to protect their hair from lice. Hair lice were common at that time and even women used to wear their hair short to protect from them. Later, Louis the XIII of France, known as "Louis the Bald," started wearing a wig to hide his baldness. Louis the XIVthought wigs are interesting and fashionable and so, it became the trend which was initially adopted by the then elite class of the society.
· English Courts adopted wigs in 1705 after it was being adopted by the Court ofCharles II in 1663. Judges adopted wigs and started wearing white wigs. However, as the trend quickly changes so did the trend for wig-wearing. But, the Court refused to adopt the newer trend as it was seen as a compromise of its dignity and so, judges kept on wearing huge white wigs. Ultimately, these hairpieces were no longer popular in the society and so, they became symbolic for the English Court only.
· Married Jewish women cover their heads with hair replacement systems. Not because they are bald, have hair thinning issues or are too lazy to brush their hair but as a sign of modesty. Jewish Law says that a married woman should cover her hair (in contrast to Muslim women who cover their hair from the onset of puberty). However, single women are allowed to cover their hair. Jewish women who have lost their hair do not wearhair replacement systems rather, they hide it with kerchiefs.
· There was a time in Europe when wigs became obligatory for men of higher ranks and high social status. These wigs were not like modern hair replacement systems rather, they were huge, heavy and uncomfortable. They used to cover the back and the shoulder while flowing down the chest. Usually, they were made using horse or goat’s hair. Wigs which made use of human hair were expensive and considered the best pieces.
Now, we know that wigs are more than concealers. They are not always intended to cover hair loss or balding issues. In fact, in European culture it was used as a sign of dignity and superiority and is still is use in English Courts. Wig –wearing becomes an obligation for married Jew women.
Conventional wigs are advanced in today’shair replacement systems. In fact, they have gone a significant improvement and now they are way different from what was the traditional idea of a wig. Modern, hair systems are hard to guess. Rarely, you could realize that an individual is erring a wig. Not only they are available of-the-shelf but can also be prepared on order.
